Overview

01design designed Flytalk, a multimodal conversational solution for airport passengers, giving them seamless access to flight and airport information, wayfinding, and personalized assistance through natural language and visual interaction. The system creates a fluid dialogue between traveler and airport (and airlines), enhancing every stage of the journey - from arrival at the terminal to boarding and connections.

Airports are high-pressure environments where timing, orientation, and service must stay perfectly in sync. Flytalk reshapes this journey by turning airport information into a natural, conversational layer. Passengers can ask, find their gate, or react to last-minute changes - by voice or touch - while the system adapts to their location, language, and intent. Designed by 01design for airport operations, it makes tech disappear behind clarity, helping airports (and their partners) talk to travelers in real time, proactively and with empathy.

Challenges

The main challenge was to simplify the airport passenger journey while bringing together heterogeneous data sources - flight status, gate changes, airport services, and wayfinding - into a single conversational layer. Adding indoor navigation (with floor awareness and precise positioning) risked overwhelming users if not contextualized. We had to design a system that feels effortless: it understands intent, knows where the passenger is, surfaces only what matters in that moment, and speaks the traveler’s language across multiple touchpoints and environments.

Solution

We created a multimodal conversational ecosystem combining voice interaction, visual feedback, and adaptive AI. Flytalk can assist passengers in real time - offering updates, recommendations, and support - whether onboard, at the gate, or during transit. Thanks to indoor/outdoor navigation powered with Hidonix, the assistant can locate the passenger with sub-meter accuracy, guide them across floors, trigger proximity messages, and expose POIs and services without installing invasive beacons. This makes wayfinding, safety, and even location-based offers fully context-aware and easy to manage from a single CMS. Through a minimal, elegant interface, the system translates complex operations into smooth, natural exchanges. The result: a connected experience that brings calm, clarity, and comfort to modern air travel.
